Reading Writing Club

The Reading Writing club is an initiative introduced for students of grade 1. It is aimed at inculcating a love for books and enhancing students’ creative expression, verbally and in writing. The class is structured in a way where reading time is followed by

  • Theatre activity
  • Creative writing
  • Story Craft
  • Poetry

Students are motivated to do peer reading as well as reading in groups. We have found that students enjoy following a series, such as ‘The Enchanted Wood’ by Enid Blyton. Though these books are read out by the teacher, students enjoy the sense of continuity and are drawn into the storyline, thus picking up the book themselves at a later stage. Closure is provided at the end of the year with each student authoring his/her own book, in a small scale ‘Writers’ Workshop’.
